What is the universal source of energy on earth? All green plants and algae utilize this energy source through what process? Briefly explain the process and identify the cellular organelle that is involved.
The universal source of energy on earth is sunlight. All green plants and algae are called photoautotrophs as they utilize light as a source through a process called photosynthesis. This enables them to synthesize energy from light. Photosynthesis is a process where light energy is converted into chemical energy wherein carbon dioxide is taken in by the plant and along with water it is converted into utilisable sugar and oxygen(which is released into the atmosphere). Chloroplasts are the organelles responsible for photosynthesis. They contain the pigment chlorophyll which allows the plants and algae to absorb energy from light.
