Today, there are many vocal special interest groups, prominent lobbying groups, and prominent political contributors who encourage elected policy makers to develop policies for the benefit of the special interest group. Do you think that today's policy makers truly represent the general public, or do they actually represent special interest groups and the elite population? Why, or why not?
The policy makers are the elected members of the Government who have been voted for by the general public in majority. It is the responsibility of the policy makers to sanitize and prioritize the interests of the general public. The lobbyists and special interest groups are getting promotions from the policy makers but the Government ensures that no policy is drafted by sacrificing or superseding the interests of general public. Even if they want to give special privilege to an interest group, the mass media of our society is so active and agile that they will broadcast and create controversy about such a gimmick. Also the general public has the right to information, which helps in prevailing transparency in policy making. So, though the interest groups and lobbyists have power and influence, the interests of general public is never put at stake by the policy makers.
