Solutions

Expert Solution

1. difference between speed and velocity

speed - is rate of change of distance with respect to time

velocity - is rate of change of displacement wrt time.

speed - is scalar quantity

velocity - is vector quantity

speed- always positive

velocity - can be negative, or and positive

2. Rate of change of velocity with respect to time is called acceleration.

3. * when body is moving along a straight line its velocity can increase = speed up

* when body is moving along a straight line its velocity can decrease = slow down

* direction of motion may change = change its direction

4. speed units can be meter/second foot/second    kilometer per hour miles per hour

velocity units can be   meter/second foot/second    kilometer per hour miles per hour (same as speed)

acceleration units can be meter/second square   foot/second square   kilometer per hour square

5. avearge speed = total distance travelled / total time taken = 10/40 = 0.25 m/s
