i.
Discuss briefly the mechanisms of action of TWO major classes of
drugs used to treat
gastric/duodenal ulcers.
ii.
Prescribe in addition to the above, a non-pharmacological treatment
for the same health
conditions
Gastric and duodenal ulcers means a sore that develops on the lining of stomach ,oesophagus, and intestines caused by the acid secreted by the stomach, and gasttric cells. It is mainly caused by H Pylori infection and NSAID use inflammatiion.
1.Medications used to treat gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers are
Antibiotics- These are used to treat H pylori infections.
Proton pimb inhibitors. - These drugs blocks the gastric H,K-ATPase distrupt the secretion of gastric acid .This helps the healing of ulcers..
H2 receptor antagonist- These reduces the gastric acid secretion by binding to histamine, H2 receptor present in the gastric parietal cells. Thus prevents the action of ligand histamine.
Both the drugs are used to reduce the production of gastric acid and reduce the severity of gastric ulcers.
2.The ulcers can be managed without medications by some life style management.
