As we know, any economic decision involves a trade-off and an opportunity cost. Why do you believe developing countries tend to give preference to economic development rather than environmental protection? (Developing countries tend to be somewhat reluctant when asked to impose greater environmental controls, how would more stringent environmental regulation affect their economies and national competitiveness?) Besides the obvious reduction in pollution emissions, are there any other positive effects that may arise due to a tightening of environmental standards? Could environmental controls have positive effects in economic growth for a country (whether they are developed or developing economies)?
Developing countries tend to give preference to economic development as we economies of world are being globalized every country want to trade with other country to and want to increase their economy. Developing countries are less developed than to developed one. Developing countries has to formulate various policies to increase and develop their infrastructure so that basic amenities can be existed in the economies. Apart from this their resources are still not being utilized to the limit that they can. Both economic development and economic growth become an important dream to the developing countries in that they do not pay proper attention to the environment protection. They maximize the level of economic growth by increasing infrastructure facilities and more complex model to be used to increase super infrastructure to increase the level of competition with the other country. They also aware of negative and positive effect of economic development and environment degradation but still they prefer to economic development rather than environment protection. They prefer to develop special economic zones for export and import houses.
Developing countries tend to be somewhat reluctant when asked to impose greater environmental controls they do not prefer stringent environmental regulation affect their economies and national competitiveness. As they know that these kind of restriction would not allow them to increase their base for economic development, several project for capital formation. No more employment opportunities, no further gdp growth, no industrial development, no regional development, no foreign exchange, No per capita income etc. would exist, which are important one to show you competitiveness to rest of world.
With tightening the environment standard, no doubt pollution emission will be under control but also qualitative development would be noticed in which unnecessary forest degradation, cut down the tree for industrial development would be restricted. Apart from this Green corridor would be developed that would allow the development phase to specific area or town where such activities are quite necessary and people could migrate to such area. Apart from this you can also put an example of clear and green environment along with economic development. That would attract other people to tourism to such places. We can dream of economic development without destruction of natural environment. We can also dream of positive effect of such policies that are designed to control environment degradation.
