Identifying Fallacies
This week’s lecture focused on applying some of the intellectual standards discussed in previous weeks and applying them to the news media. This week’s lecture also focused on the different fallacies that individuals make when trying to persuade you. Think of some of the disagreements or arguments you have had in the past – either at a personal, educational or professional level. Describe the disagreement or argument. What kinds of fallacies did you or they use as part of the argument? Was it persuasive? Did you feel good critical thinking was used in any of your examples?
Your work should be at least 500 words, but mostly draw from your own personal experience. This should be written in first person and give examples from your life. Be sure if you are using information from the readings that you properly cite your readings in this, and in all assignments.
IN YOUR OWN WORDS!!!!!! NO PLAGIARISM PLEASE!!!!!
Hello!
I'm more than happy to answer this particular question.
starting off ,we have so many arguments at some point and most of it is about the on going stereotypical belief and sticking to social beliefs without knowing the base or root.
So there was an argument or maybe a discussion which turned into an argument where we started off with something and ended on something just disagreeing ! Our discussions involved a few discussions Including India and a few social misconceptions, I had an argument with my friend and this person brought up a point saying women specially (Northern part)cover their faces and heads with a viel called the GHUNGAT because they did not show their faces to men as they were quiet superior and women could not exhibit themselves and lived on their father's or husband's identity which seemed appealing to my friend .I mean ,this person does not even know why this was and started giving his /her own reasons but in real it was so because the women of this community were roysls and mostly queens (THE RAJPUTH)they were very skilled in fighting and in scholarly knowledge and knew their self worth and did not find it necessary for every man or visitor to see them ,they wanted to live up to their good ego but people or here my own friend understand it differently ,it is selective thinking, I believe.Another instance includes a community where women in their menstrual cycle are not allowed to enter the chapel(MANDIR,POOJA ROOM) where the prayers and made and oil or ghee lamps are lit for God. They are avoided because the society, people and my friend thinks that it will deprive the Gods of being pure and will contaminate them and are made to sit in a corner doing absolutely nothing. In real this was done to give the women the rest they needed, but here too this concept is being turned to stereotypical beliefs by the generation. I strongly believe that one should not make a statement without proof or false belief.
Thankyou, hope this helped!
