Solutions

Expert Solution

a) wash hands before and after entry

* It reduces the risk of Hospital acquired infections(HAI) and infection to herself.

b)Apply a disposable gown when entering the room

*Personal protective equipment is specialized equipment or clothing you use to protect yourself and patients from germs. It creates a barrier between the virus, bacteria or fungi and you. PPE includes gloves , gowns , goggles, masks and face shields.

for example : in droplet precautions we need to wear mask, gloves and disposable gowns.

According to the centres for disease control and prevention , when putting equipment on, start with a gown first, then the mask, goggles and gloves.

Equipment shoul be removed as soon as you are done caring fir the patient. If there is an anteroom, which is a smaller, separate room connected to the patients room, remove equipment there. If there is not an anteroom, remove equipment at the door. The centres for disease control and prevention recommends removing equipment in the following sequence; gloves, face shield , mask and gown.

c)Door may remain open

*Droplets are particles of respiratory secretions that:-

-Are larger than 5 micrometers.

-Do not remain suspended in the air for extended periods.

-Can be transmitted within 3 to 6 feet from the source patient.

It is not necessary to use special air handling systems and/or higher level respiratory masks to care of patients with diseases capable of roplet transmission. Unlike patients on airborne precautions , the doors of droplet precaution rooms may remain open . However , everyone entering the room must wear a surgical mask.

d)Remind the client to cough into a tissue

*The idea is to cover your mouth when you cough (or sneeze) so the germs in your body are not propelled into the air or across the room which could make others sick.

e)Help client to to wear a mask before transporting out of the room

*Limit transport and movement of patients outside of the room to medically-necessary purposes. If transport or movement outside of the room is necessary , instruct patient to wear a mask and follow Respiratory hygiene/cough etiquette.
