Provide 1 (one) example each of how power relationships and power gradients have been manifest in recent and in early colonial times.
Introduction:
power: it is the capacity of an individual to influence the actions, beliefs, or conduct (character) of others.
Power relationship:Power is an interpersonal relationship in which one person or group has the ability to cause another person or group to take an action .There are five basic kinds of power: they include ,(1) referent, (2) expert, (3) legitimate, (4) reward , and (5) coercive.
Example: Cultural diversification and nationalist centralization characterize the South American nation-states in the late twentieth century as they did during colonial and republican era. Such centripetal-centrifugal forces are mostly seen in cultural performances and in social movements.
Power gradient:The power gradient is the feeling of “how much more important are people in the next generation in the hierarchy than we are” and “how much more important are we then people below us.”
Example:Share of Voice – How much more someone talks than others in the room, meeting or in a particular event.
