Strength of home economics teaching in
Ghana:
- Ghana is a poor country where people are not literate and
educated enough especially women of the country. Home economics
teaching to the young and as well as adults women guide them about
the importance of hygiene and responsibilities of being a parent.
They are taught the theories, approach and skills for parenting and
child guidance.
- They are introduced to safety hazards and planning for
emergencies.
- It provides a wide theory of food and nutrition science, so
that one could take proper diet and know the importance of proper
balanced diet.
- This also helps the economy as well, because it raises a
healthy nation by spreading awareness about the good food,
nutrition and a better lifestyle in the economy.
- People are educated to be a good home maker.
Weakness of home economics teaching in
Ghana:
- Government should expand the teaching of home economics
especially for unemployed women.
- The course need to expand the topics and there is need for
greater professionalism in the field. The researches in this field
should be increased.
- The employment and the home economics should be linked tighter,
in other words, employment must be given to the graduates of home
economics which would increase the importance and promote the
knowledge of home economics.
