Describe 2 ways in which Aboriginal children were abused in Residential schools.
Aboriginal students were abused in residential schools.
* Residential school which means a boarding school, where students live on campus in dormitories or resident houses( hostels)
First way,
•The students were abused physically and sexually.
Many students sent to residential school never come back home, they might be killed by disease, accidents, fires, and another hurt by physical and sexual abuse.
They may face poor living conditions and inadequate food which worsens these problems for students.
Corporal punishment was common in residential school, many students experienced strapped or beaten and also sexual abuse.
They may affect chronic and infectious diseases.
One of the most devastating impacts of the residential school system was that it gave most students a poor education, for many they led to chronic unemployment or underemployment, poverty, poor housing, and ill-health.
If the students when they complained of abuse the students were often ignored.
The second way, we can describe this aboriginal student was abused in residential schools that,
•The students were abused mentally and emotionally
The residential school system harmed children by removing them from their families, depriving them of their ancestral language.
The system forcefully separated children from their families for extended periods.
They are forbidden to speak their native languages and practices their culture.
Students who attended the residential school system often graduated from being unable to fit into their community.
Effects on mental and emotional well being including mental distress, depression, addictive behavior, and substance misuse and suicidal behaviors.
Conclusion: aboriginal students we're abused in residential school, the two ways we discussed above, one is physical and sexual abuse the second one is mental and emotional abuse.
