What if we just had a system-wide union (labor relations) one that represented every working individually? can you explain the reasons for agree or disagree with this statement? (200 word counts)
I do not support having a single system-wide union representing each and every worker. The entire economy consists of different industries. Different industries operate under different conditions and have unique pros and cons for workers. Therefore, workers from different industries have different concerns which may not be effectively addressed by a single and unified union representing all workers. It will be too overwhelming for a single labor union to identify all different issues being faced by workers in different industries than addressing them adequately. For example, workers in the automobile industry face challenges which are different from the challenges faced by workers in other industries like for say retail industry or aviation industry. Therefore, workers from different industries cannot be effectively represented by the one unified labor unions. Labor union leaders are not also expected to have in-depth knowledge of all industries. In addition, such a single labor union will have an overwhelmingly large number of members and coordinating with such large number of members is also a very difficult task. Moreover, if there is one single union, it will have its own bureaucratic and corruption issues. Therefore, it is better to have different unions representing workers from different industries or business domains.
