How dependent have we become to the Internet...what would happen if were to just stop working?
The Internet has been a boon for us since its inception. Its multiple uses have made sure that the general public life is made easier. Being born in an age, when I have seen the growth of the internet, from being able to stay connected with family and friends to be able to manage work and chores at the push of a button, I can say that I am blessed. We no longer have long queues and wait hours at the electricity office to pay the bills, nor do we need to step out of our homes to have lunch or dinner. Everything is available and possible due to the Internet.
It is true that our lives are now very dependent on the Internet. Almost all the organizations, be it a private firm or a government office, have their work that depends on the Internet. Other than making work easier, it has also helped in easing the pressure on the environment as we need much less paper now. Just imagine a world without computers and the Internet, we would still be using files and snail-mail to record, document, and transfer information. We would be dealing with huge storage issues with rooms full of cabinets that are full of files and papers.
If the Internet stops working, the effects would be catastrophic. All the servers would go down causing huge losses to companies, the sharemarket would crash as buying and selling would stop, the security systems would stop working, causing a huge risk to the law and order of the cities, and not to mention the panic that it would cause to the general public. There will be a lack of availability of correct information that would give rise to rumors. All in all the state would fail.
