1. Rephrase the message for verification by the pt., using any of the nine methods of active listening mentioned in Week 2 Lecture. (Make sure you use one of the Nine Methods of Active Listening, preferably not the method of silence.

2. Tell us what method(s) you are using.

3. After you have verified the message, compose a therapeutic response or answer to the pt.

5. You are helping Mrs. Smith, an elderly female patient dress, the patient states, “With my arthritis, I can’t tie my own shoes anymore. Getting old is not fun.”

The health problems should be well listened , understood and evaluated to make health education effective . a good listener is to pay attention on the total individual for effective communication.

Mrs smith says that she cannot tie her shoe anymore with her disease condition arthritis.Try to understand her feeling and allow her to express her emotions.Practice empathy is a good theraputic component to understand and make a healthy relationship with the patient.This methods help to improve the interpersonal trust. Moreover it help to strengthen communication and understand that how the patients are coping with the treatment.

After listening her problems , educate her about the disease condition and how she can manage the pain due to arthritis.Most of the people like to remain independent. so help them to improve their health. Help the patient to manage medication if they feel difficult to handle dosage. Encourage her to do excercise ,movement help keep joint lubricated and muscles strong. provide hot or cold applications to reduce pain ,administer anti inflammatory drugs ,analgesic and slow acting medications as prescribed by the physician.
