INTRODUCTION

COVID-19 is caused by SARS - CORONA virus 2 which is a novel corona virus causing primarily respiratory infection. The mode of spread is prodominently through aerosols. The first case was reported from Wuhan province of China in December 2019 and now it has become a global pandemic. It is a single stranded RNA virus with a surrounding nucleocapsid and antigens like S protein, M protein, N protein and E protein. The virus enters the cells through the ACE2 receptor present on the cells. The manifestations can range from asymptomatic infections to Multiorgan failure leading to death. But the mortality rate associated with Covid 19 is low. Diagnosis is by isolating the viral DNA by PCR. Treatment options are limited and often symptomatic. Vaccines are under development in various countries of the world. Prevention of acquiring infection by maintaining social distancing, hand hygeine and usage of masks are the best measures to combat this pandemic.

CONCLUSION

Covid 19 is the most important health care issue of current times which has made the world to become standstill. Effective vaccines and Hygeinic measures are the best way to gain control over this pandemic. It has taken the human race to a new normal and it will be marked as a turning point in the history of mankind.
