INDICATIONS FOR URINALYSIS

• Burning on urination
• Bloody or cloudy urine

DISEASES THAT COULD REVEALED FROM URINALYSIS

1. Ketone in urine indicates Diabetic Keto Acidosis (DKA)
2. Bilirubin in urine indicates Jaundice
3. Cloudy urine indicates Urinary Tract Infections
4. Increased protein in urine indicates Kidney diseases.

CLEAN CATCHED MID STREAM URINE

Clean catched midstream urine is ordered in order to prevent germs entering from perineal area to urine specimen. The germs entering into to urinalysis sample may lead to false results.

TECHNIQUE

For collecting midstream urine clean the genital area with soap and water. A sterile wipe may be provided to clean the area. In females seperate labia majora and clean it and in males retract the foreskin and wipe of dirt.

• urinate a small amount into the toilet bowl, then stop the flow of urine.
• Hold the urine cup a few inches (or a few centimeters) from the urethra and urinate until the cup is about half full.
• You may finish urinating into the toilet bowl.

24 HOUR URINE COLLECTION

A 24-hour urine collection is a simple lab test that measures what’s in your urine. The test is used to check kidney function. A 24-hour urine collection is done by collecting your urine in a special container over a full 24-hour period. The container must be kept cool until the urine is returned to the lab.

PURPOSE OF 24 HR URINE COLLECTION

A 24-hour urine collection helps diagnose kidney problems. It is often done to see how much creatinine clears through the kidneys. It’s also done to measure protein, hormones, minerals, and other chemical compounds.

Conditions that can cause kidney disease include:

• Diabetic nephropathy

• High blood pressure

• Lupus nephritis

• Frequent urinary tract infections.

• Prolonged urinary tract blockage.

• Alport syndrome

• Nephrotic syndrome

• Polycystic kidney disease

• Interstitial nephritis or pyelonephritis.

• Screening for preeclampsia in pregnancy.

• Kidney stones (nephrolithiasis).

FIRST MORNING SPECIMEN

First morning sample is prefered in pregancy test. Beacuse the level of hcg in urine is found high during early morning. The presence of of hcg in urine indicated positive pregnancy test.
