Safety is of utmost importance in any organization. Being careless not only causes injuries and accidents but also can have serious impacts on the reputation and sustainability of an organization. The program is definitely a right step in improving safety performance and it should entail certain characteristics to be successful.

Instructional characteristics that the program should have

Objectives: The organization must be clear about the objectives of the program and the participants of the program must be given a clear understanding regarding the objectives.

Meaningful content: The content must be as specific as possible and must be able to deliver maximum understanding with minimum rhetoric.

Opportunities for practice: The participants must to given opportunities to practise the methods in their actual work environment.

Methods for committing training content to memory: Repetition of the methods must be encouraged at least till the participants start applying them without much thought.

Feedback: The participants must be given continuous feedback from time to time. This will help them in understanding where they are lagging and the ares where their performance is good.

Observation, experience, and social interaction: Interaction must be encouraged among the participants to get a better understanding of the methods in the program.

Proper coordination and arrangement of the training program: The training program must be well planned and all the required resources must be allocated by the management.

Encourage trainee responsibility and self-management: The trainees must be encouraged to be more responsible and manage the tasks on their own.

Ensure that the work environment supports leaning and transfer: Care must be taken to see that the work environment is supportive to implementing the methods of the program and that participants can learn effectively through interaction and application.
