INDIAN CULTURE
Primary health care should be emphasized wherein people are put at centre of care. Health workers should live within communities to understand local culture and language which gives them unique perspective of health problems and needs.
The cost of healthcare is rising worldwide largely driven by heavy and growing burden of non commmunicable diseases including mental health disorders, ageing societies, innovations of expensive treatments and techniques. It is that cost effectiveness comes to play. Costing information is important for planning and decision making process on how to provide effective care within constraints of financial, human and other resources. It is prudent to make best use of available resources.
According to WHO globally around 20-40% of resourses spent on health was wasted. There is inappropriate and overuse of antibiotics which led to antibiotic resistance. WHO also suggests innovative ideas to raise revenue on the sale of tobacco and alcohol. Countries like Philippines, France, Egypt and Turkey raised tobacco taxes which showed good results and helps in significant reduction in prevalence of tobacco related diseases like lung cancer and premature deaths.
Universal health coverage has agreed an objective of health and development policy. UHC aims to ensure that all people can use promotive, preventive, curative, rehabilitative and palliative health services that are of sufficient quality and ensuring that use of these services does not cause financial hardship to consumers. All WHO member countries have agreed to provide this service depending upon their capability. The 12th five year plan targets a long term goal of UHC where each individual would be assured access to a defined essential range of medicines and treatment at affordable price.
