In early 16's or in late 17's, there was no such thing called as a database management system, where one can store, modify, make replicas, alter and delete the records easily. During those days, everything was wriiten under register and records are written manually which is surely a lengthy process. There used to be no backup for database, if the registers are lost or damaged. Some of the functionalities such as transferring an employee from one country to another is done by sending a letter to another branch to let them know that this operation is going to take place, and his detailed records are also sent by him to the other branch.
From this we can clearly observe that how difficult it was t manage, transfer, store the data manually. And in todays world we have such a huge technologies where we can easily perform all the operations within a fraction of seconds.
