Poverty and not having health insurance is very difficult in todays
world as the cost of medical expenses is too high. I have seen
physicians and nurses responses towards different types of patient
and they vary accordingly. People who are uninsured often face
descrimination in health care settings.
According to me the reason why they feel descriminated is because
they are not given good attention and they feel that they have not
been explained their treatments or procedure whatsoever.
As in hospital settings the physicians and nurses are more
attentive towards the people who are insured because they know that
they will be able to pay hospital expenses. While some people who
are uninsured might not be able to pay hospital expenses and may
run away without paying hospital bills or may ask for DAMA
(Discharge against medical advice) sometimes.
Sometimes, patients who are insured recover faster than the one
uninsured because the amount of care and treatment received is very
expensive.
My experience: I was once working in a Diabetes specialist
hospital, so the physicians or the nurses over there would advice
or show continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) equipment which is very
expensive or costly to only who are insured or could afford
it.
