*Improving genetic research is more rewarding than improving social conditions both financially and medically.
*For example, the current Covid 19 situation. If we had advanced in our genetic research with respect to Coronaviruses then we'd have easily tackled this situation when compared to improving social conditions. Which we are improving as of now.
* Genetic research is a lot of time consuming hence the huge prize pool for those who use their wits and get the work done faster than others.
* Human genetic research generates knowledge with the potential to improve individual and community health.
* Research can also reveal information about an individual’s susceptibility to disease and hence about the individual’s future health.
* The completion of the first mapping of the human genome under the Human Genome Project has opened huge potential for research into the ways in which genes relate to human conditions, capacities, diseases, impairments and susceptibilities.
* On the contrary, the scope for improvement in the social conditions is much less and hence it gets less attention and money.
Hence, I think this is the reason why so much money and attention goes towards genetic research than towards improving social conditions.
