Identify a person you know who has an immune system disorder or cancer. Review content in your text for potential types of disorders.
Interview the affected person and write a 3-5 page paper identifying your findings including:
Questions you may want to use to guide your interview:
Answer : Immune system disorder is a condition that our body produces antibodies to attack the body's own tissues instead of fighting infections. Here I am going to explain about Rheumatoid arthritis . Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a condition that our body produces antibodies that attacks healthy tissues in the joints. Immune system cells then attack the joints, causing inflammation ,swelling and pain ,swelling, stiffiness, and reduced joint mobility. People usually experience the symptoms of RA in multiple joints, and the condition typically affects both sides of the body symmetrically. The symptoms tend to occur in cycles, so people have flare -ups and periods of remission. Over time ,RA can lead to permanent joint damage . Signs and symptoms : 1) pain or aching in more than one joint 2) Tenderness in more than one joint 3) weight loss 4) fever 5) fatigue 6) weakness. RA is a progress disorder and it gets worse unless take proper treatments. Affected People may have to take long term treatment and daily activities to prevent the symptoms. 1) RA causes inflammation in one or more joints. This can cause the cartilage in the joints to wear away .As a result ,the bones may rub together and eventually start to erode, causing permanent damage . 2) RA nodules develop under the skin, over bony ares and they can cause discomfort and pain in the part and it takes long time to heel. 3) people experience dry mouth or xerostomia 4 )RA cause inflammation in the eyes such as keratitis ,scleraitis ,Iberia, retinal vascular occlusion ,cataracts and glaucoma . 5) RA cause prolonged inflammation in the lungs can lead to pulmonary fibrosis and breathing difficulties 6 ) plaque builds up and blocks artery or blood vessels and heart attack may occur 7) pericarditis also may occur and it leads to chest pain . Fortunately ,many treatments and therapies are available for preventing RA. Firstly, doctors confirm the diagnosis after blood tests (c-reactive protein) and imaging tests such as X-ray and MRI. There is no cure for RA but can control the symptoms. 1) NSAIDS : Non -steroidal Anti-inflammatory drugs can relieve pain and reduce inflammation. It includes ibuprofen, naproxen and this drugs may cause stomach irritation, heart problems and kidney damage . 2) Steroids : corticosteroids medications such as prednisone reduces pain and inflammation and slow joint damage. Side effects may include thinning of bones, weight gain and diabetes . 3) Disease - modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDS) :This drugs can slow the progression of rheumatoid arthritis and save the joints and other tissues from permanent damage .Side effects include liver damage and bone marrow suppression . 4) Biologic events : This drugs can target the parts of the immune system that trigger inflammation that causes joint and tissue damage .It can cause blood clots in the lungs. 5 ) Therapy : Doctors send the patient's to an occupational therapist who can teach exercises to help keep your joints flexible. The therapist may also suggest new ways to do daily tasks which will be easier on your joints .Assistive devices can make it easier to avoid stressing your painful joints . 6) surgery : synovectomy, tendon repair ,joint fusion, total joint replacement surgeries are also the important treatments for RA. Surgeries carries bleeding, infection and pain . Depression and anxiety are the two most common mental illness that people experience with RA. It put a strain on social relationships. Pain and loss of independence can make people feel frustrated angry and depressed that can affect the family members . Eventhough can't cure the diseases ,some treatments such as acupuncture and herbal treatments, physical therapy massage are good for preventing pain ,discomfort and providing psychological support to the patient .
