Decision Making and Problem Solving
Reflect on someone you know, a leader, whom you believe is an effective decision maker. What are some of the characteristics this person displays? What is the specific decision-making model this person appears to use? What have you learned from this person’s approach that you would use in your approach?
I have a colleague in my office , he runs an NGO for social cause and works their whenever he gets time. His NGO spreads awareness about environmental issues. He is an effective leader because when he started the NGO a year ago , there were only 3 members including him , now there are around 100 volunteers working with him . This is not about just the numbers , it is about his way of leading the people , his communication skills , persuading quality , his empathy towards environment and decision making ability. These are some of his characteristics that are displayed in him. This person has been recognized by the local mayor and also has been awarded for his social cause.
This person generally uses classic / rational decision making model. This is because his objectives are clear , he knows the environmental problems , people wants to works with him , alternatives are known to him for solving his problems and the decisions are rational in recognizing the problems.
I have learned not to be biased while taking any decisions . I have also learn to set clear objectives while dealing with any problem and identify the alternate solution by keeping my mind calm.
