The metastatic cascade and angiogenesis involve multiple steps. Describe areas or steps where the metastatic cascade and angiogenesis are similar (limit 1 page; 6 pts)
An invasive metastatic phenotype requires the ability to degrade ___________ via _____________. (1 pts)
Please type answers, written answers are hard to read
1st part:
Metastasis is the mechanism of dislodgement of tumour cell in any secondary sites other than the original site.
Initally the tumour cells proliferate rapidly without maintaining the contact inhibition and gets loosened as they are not bound via Cell Adhesion molecules (CAM) like E cadherins. Now these cell break the extracellular matrix with enzymes like metalloprotienases etc. These cells enter the blood vesels , lymphatic vessels by breaking its basement membrane and now gets attached to any part of the body.
In that site of lodgement they liberate factors like VEGF(vacular endothelial growth factors) which helpsin formation of blood vessels or angiogenesis is done in order to maintain the blood supply to the tumour cells.
2nd part:
An invasive metastatic phenotype requires the ability to degrade extracellular matrix via enzymes like metalloproteinases eg. collagenase, gelatinase etc.
All the best mate. Cheers!!
