Similar genes (homologs) are found in humans. Do you expect the expression of these genes to be similar during human development? During cancer development?
Homologous or Homolods are two or more genes that descend from a common ancestral DNA sequence. Orthologous and paralogous genes are different types of homologous genes. . An example of homologous genes are the genetic codes underlying a bat wing and a bear arm. Both retain similar features and are utilized in similar manners.
During Human Development: Paralogous or paralogs, are genes that are created not by speciation but by mutated gene duplication within a single species. The most famous example of this are the paralogs myoglobin and hemoglobin. Myoglobin is a binding protein found in muscle tissues, and hemoglobin is a binding protein found in blood.
During Cancer Development: Homologous recombination as another mechanism that can result in a loss of heterozygosity or genetic rearrangements. Some of these genetic alterations may play a primary role in carcinogenesis, but they are more likely to be involved in secondary and subsequent steps of carcinogenesis by which recessive oncogenic mutations are revealed.
