CRITICAL THINKING:
1) Surgical asepsis refers to the practices that keep objects and areas sterile (free from all living microorganisms). As such, surgical asepsis is crucial to minor office surgeries, as pathogenic microorganisms could enter the patient’s body and cause disease. Maintaining surgical asepsis is an essential responsibility of the MA. When does surgical asepsis come into play in a medical office? What are some specific circumstances when it is employed? What should be done if surgical asepsis is broken?
Surgical asepsis is the absence of all microorganisms with in any type of invasive procedures. Sterile technique is a set of specific practices and procedures performed to make equipment and areas free from all microorganisms and to maintain the sterility. Surgical asepsis is important to protect patient from harmful bacteria and other pathogens during medical procedures .
Medical office is where practitioner practice and provide care to to patient in out patient department in emergency situations.
*Surgical asepsis come into play when medical officer and assistant perform invasive procedures like ,urinary catheterization to reliving abdominal distension, Insertions of ryles tube for gastric lavage or gavage procedures, doing Minor suturing and suture removing ,doing surgical dressing. In these situations we need to maintain surgical asepsis to prevent direct invasion of micro organism into body. *When we perform above said invasive procedures we need to follow aseptic techniques to prevent infection. Those are specific circumstances.
*When there is breaking in surgical asepsis ,need to maintain atleast medical asepsis to reduce the Chance of infection. *Need to administer any prevention medications like vaccines like tetanus toxoid ,and DPT. *Maintain watchful observation of patient for any complications. * Administer immune boosters.
