3. What are several substitutions that Martin could make that would significantly lower his intake of saturated and trans fats?

Solutions

Expert Solution

1.The sources of saturated and trans fats in Martin's diet are

  • Hamburgers
  • Fries
  • Cheese

2.Martin has not reduced his fat intake because the total fats in Ranch dressing is about 78% with 40% of saturated fats in it .Which is quite very high.

Now the food with cheese contains nearly 104% of fats in it.Whereas hamburger contains 19% of saturated fats with very bad trans fats about 0.5g which is a chief reason to get cardiovascular disease .The fries contains 11% as saturated fats. (This is a standard level of saturated and trans fats in 100gram of these foods)

This indicates that Martin has not made any greater efforts to reduce his saturated and trans fats intake .

3.The substitution to reduce his saturated and trans fat foods are

  • Black bean burger ,ground turkey, chick pea ,cauliflower burger consists of low saturated fats and trans fats compared to hamburger
  • Kale chips ,sweet potato fries can be used instead of fries which had low fats
  • The Feta cheese and Mozzarella can be recommended instead of cheese which has low saturated fats compared to normal cheese
