Do you think companies should provide a broader menu of benefits (e.g., child care, veterinary care, financial counseling) or improve the menu of core benefits (e.g., health care, insurance, pensions)? Why?
I believe it shall depend upon the size of the Company, the nature of the services it is engaged in and the composition of the general employees in terms of demographics, health and income factors, that shall help in deciding as to whether a broader menu of benefits is needed or whether strengthening of the core benefits by the Company is more called for. For example, if the general income generating capacity of the employees is less, then it is better to cover all-comprehensively, the core benefits itself because those shall be highly essential for the employees to anyway invest in and hence unavoidable in nature. However, on the other side, if the employees are economically more stable, then a broader menu of benefits could be offered because such employees would be in the position to think and analyze the returns that such broader benefits have to offer, irrespective of those benefits not being in-depth.
