1) Diabetes defines that an elevation of blood glucose in the blood. The 3 types of diabtes are :
a.Type 1 diabetes
b.Type2 diabetes
c.Gestational diabetes
a.Type 1 diabetes: It is also calle as insulin dependent diabetes because regular injection of insulin are required to prevent death. It prevously known as juvenile onset diabetes because it is most commonly develop in people younger age.,in which aperson's autoimmune system destroy the pancreatic beta cells that occurs in genetically suspectible people. The drug cyclosporine ,which suppress the immune system shows promise of being able to intterupt the destruction of beta cells.
b.Type 2 diabetes:It is also known as maturity onset diabetes..Clinical symptoms are mild and the high glucose levels in the blood are controlled by diet ,exercise, and weight losss.Sometimes ,an antibiotic therapy such as glyburide is neede. This drug stimulate secretion of insulin by beta cells of pancreas. It is an non insulin dependent diabetes and some patients needs insulin
c.Gestational diabetes:It refers to diabetes that occurs during pregnancy and disappears immediately following delievery. It is due to glucose changes during pregnancy.
2)Thiazolidinediones:
It is an oral hypoglycemic medictaions used for type 2 diabetes.
Pioglitazone and rosiglitazone are come under this medications.Thiazolidinediones are insulin senstizing agents that loers blood glucose by deceasing hepatic glucose production and improving target cell response to insulin.May cause liver toxicity.
3)Oral medications are prescribed for clients with type2 diabetes when diet and weight control therapy are failed to maintain satisfactory blood glucose level.
Insulin are used to treat type 1 and 2 diabetes when diet ,weight control therapy and oral hypoglycemic agents are failed to control the glucose levels.Types of insulin are :
Rapid acting insulin onset is 5 to 15 minutes and the peak effect is 1 to 3 hours
Intermediate acting insulin:onset of action is 1 to 2 hours and peak effect 4 to 12 hours after adminstration
Long acting insulin:Onset of action is 2 to 4 hours
Gestational diabetes medications :The modaliies include diet and weight loss and when these stragies are failed some oral medications such as metformin and glyburide are used to control glucose level in the body and in some clients when the oral meducations are failed insulin therapy will start .
