seedless plants can be divided into two main subgroups, based on their characteristics. list two subgroups and then list two characteristics that defines each subgroup.
• Seedless plants are which do not grow from seeds or do not
produce seeds.
• Seedless plants can be divided into two subgroups on the basis of
presence and absence of vascular tissues -
1. Non vascular seedless plants.
2. Vascular seedless plants.
1. Non vascular seedless plants :-
• Mosses, liverworts, and hornworts are the examples of this
subgroup.
• Due to lack of vascular tissues, each cell of plant body get
water and nutrients directly from environment or from nearby cells,
so these plants usually found at moist places.
• These plants don’t have true stems, roots, or leaves and also
these are small in size.
• Gametophyte is dominant phase in life cycle.
2. Vascular seedless plants :-
• Ferns, horsetails, and club
mosses are the examples of this subgroup.
• These are large plants with specialised vascular tissues.
• These plants can live away from moist places.
• Sporophyte is dominant phase in life cycle.
