a steering wheel whose diameter is 2.44m has an angular velocity that decreases uniformly from 100 rpm at t = 0, until it stops when t = 4s. calculate tangential and normal acceleration of a point located on the edge of the steering wheel when t = 2s

Solutions

Expert Solution

Given :

diameter of the steering wheel,

maximum rotational speed of the wheel,

time taken by the wheel to stop,

  • Normal acceleration is the acceleration in the direction perpendicular to the motion of the body.

And by the basic definition we know that acceleration is the rate of change in velocity of the object. Since there is no moiton of the point in the direction normal to the direction of rotation and hence the normal acceleration is zero.

For tangential acceleration:

The maximum angualar speed of the point:

Now we find the angular acceleration:

Now we have the tangential acceleration as:

where: r = radius of the circular moition
