Drug is administered by variety of routes and dosage form. A particular route is choose. Accord to the convenience or to maximize the drug effect or concentration.
Drug administration include enteral, paretral and transcutaneous.
Enteral route consist of oral, nasogastric and rectal administration.
Oral route- the drug is enter into the circulation via GI tract and most natural and convenient rout as well as safest route.
Advantages
1. Easy to use
2. Safest route
3 don't require to penitrate the vein or subcutaneous tissue.
4. Cheaper than injection ( as iv require sterility with syringe needle expenses)
5. Don't require any special skills.
6. Don't require any assistance
7. Pain avoidance which occur in iv
Disadvantages
1. Late or delay absorption
2.cannot be use for noncooperative, vomiting or syncope patients
3. Some drugs show interection with GI juice and denatured the drugs.
4. Some drugs doeamt absorbed
5. Bioavailability of the drug is decreased due to interaction with enzyme or juices in the gastrointestinal tract.
6.some time intestinal motility affected.
7. Patient non-compliance
