Explain the different types of factorial designs (chapter 8).
1. Mixed factorial designs:
2. P X E designs:
3. Mixed P X E designs:
In an experiment when there is more than one independent variable or factors we use different factorial designs to analyze the relationship between them
1. Mixed factorial designs: When a research aims to study the within-subjects factors and between - subjects factors a mixed factorial design is used.Random assignment, column balancing can be used for this design.
2. P x E factorial design: The Person by Environment factorial design studies at one subjects Independent Variable ( person) and atleast one manipulated Independent Variable (environment) .Though draws causal link for manipulated IV , but fails to do so for subject IV,hence, causal link can be drawn for assigned style but not for preferred style.
3. Mixed P x E factorial design: Factorial design in which one Independent Variable is between- subject ( subject variable or P ), and one IV is within- subject ( manipulated or environment) .This design is used if environment factors is repeatedly measured.
