In the story, The Cask of Amontillado, to whom is he telling about the crime, explain!
In this story, The Cask of Amontillado, it is not mentioned to whom Montressor is telling the crime. But there are few clues that lead us to believe that he is confessing the crime he committed to a priest or spritual person.
Montressor had killed Fortunato because he had insulted him. Montressor happens to meet Fortunato at a carnival and then he makes him accompany him to the catacomb where he buries Fortunato alive.
The story begins with Montressor addressing a person as "You, who so well know the nature of my soul." This would show that nobody but God would know the nature of Montressor.
This shows that Montressor has finished committing the crime and he has gone for confession.
It could also mean that Montressor must have gone directly to a church after he committed the crime and confessed to God in a prayer about the crime he committed, all that he has done and why he has done it.
Thus, we can understand that Montressor has confessed his crime to either God in the church or to a priest in a church.
