Compare and contrast Anaerobic Respiration versus Fermentation. Explain the (1) electron transport system and how many ATP are produced, (2) where the electrons go (the final electron acceptor), and (3) give an example of an organism that carries out anaerobic respiration and an example of an organism that uses fermentation.
The process through which fermentation happens without oxygen, it is not same as that of anerobic respiration. Moreover, instead of the ending with gltcolysis, as in fermentation, the anerobic respiration creates a pyruvate and then it continues as the same path as that of aerobic respiration.
1. Election transport chain is defined as a series of complexes which refer to the transfer of electrons from electron donor to acceptor through redox reactions. This couples the electron transfer with the transfer of protons across the membrane. 32 ATP molecules are produced in electron transport chain.
2. The series of electron transports which are embedded in the inner mitochondrial membrane which moves the elections from NADH and FADH2 to molecular oxygen.
3. Examples of anerobic respiration includes prokaryotes , bacteria, archaea and methanogens. Yeasts and bacteria carry out fermentation . Also people use these organism to make yogurt, bread, biofuels and wine. Human muscle cells also uses fermentation process.
