I need a prelab on diversity: plants it needs to have a purpose and a protocol. at least 1pg. * can't post the article due to copyright so here at some hints/keywords.
----- For the purpose of this lab, however, the plants
will be divided into five main groups. Although these groups do not
have any real taxonomic function, they are useful starting point
for learning about plants. These are the groups: the green algae,
the nonvascular plants, the vascular plants that do not produce
seeds, vascular plants that produce seeds that are not covered,
vascular plants that produce covered seeds.
Groups | Characters | Example |
1. Green algae |
1. They may be unicellular or multicellular 2. They have no root, stems or leaves but have chlorophyll for photosynthesis |
1. Ulva 2. Ulothrix |
2. The non-vascular plants |
1. The plants don't have well developed system for transporting water and food, lack of xylem and phloem 2. They get nutrients directly from the environment |
1. Liverworts 2. Hornworts |
3. The vascular plants which don't produce seeds |
1. They are non-flowering 2. They reproduce through spores 3. They need water for sperm motility during reproduction |
1. Ferns |
4. Vascular plants that produce seeds that are not covered (Gymnosperm) |
1. Seeds are naked in female cone 2. Needle shaped leaves 3. Evergreen plants |
1. Ginkgo 2. Pinus |
5. Vascular plants that produce covered seed (Angiosperm) |
1. Seed is in the fruit 2. Presence of microspores and megaspores |
1. Mangifera 2. Aloe |
