Global civil society (GCS) has emerged as a result of rapid
globalization happening around the world.
GCS is the sum of laws, policies and institutions that
constitute relations between cultures and states.
GCS is primarily concerned with challenges that are
transitional in nature. For example, while addressing issue on
climate change, these societies have talked about ecological
problems, like the loss of biological diversity and depletion of
ozone layer.
It also faces challenges regarding international
politics, global economy, trade, investments and finance and have
raised questions regarding these issues.
But on the flip side GCS also provides challenges to the state
since its a hetereogenous group of people that comprises of
illiberals or anti-peace elements which can be a threat to the
democracy of the state. For example, various groups comprising of
racists or anti nationals have used communications network to
spread the message of intolerance and violence not only in state
but in the whole world.
GCS is a group which has multiple view points, it can never be
one. For example, there are civil societies which have an opposing
view on surrogacy and there are some who support it. This can
create a lot disruption among the people of the state.
Therefore, global civil societies need to be made more
accountable and transient and should involve representatives coming
from diverse communicates who have the knowledge and can discuss
with each other and can come to a final conclusion regarding the
issue rather than having ten differnt opinions.
