Genetics Essay

1. Describe DNA vector cloning. In your description, make sure to include:

a) the process (steps)

b) three things that a plasmid cloning vector must have

c) an explanation of how blue and white screening works during DNA recombinant technology

Solutions

Expert Solution

(a) In the process of DNA vector cloning: small fragment of foreign DNA is joined into a plasmid by cutting both the DNA with Restriction Endonuclease forming a recombinant DNA (rDNA). The rDNA is then transfer to the host cell (E. coli) where it stably inherited and synthesis the recombinant product.

(b) The three things that plasmid cloning vector must have are: origin of replication, selectable marker and multiple cloning site.

(c) blue white screening of products during recombinant DNA technology is: it is based on the principle of Insertional inactivation.

The details explanation of (a) (b) & (c) is given in the images. Please go through the images
