Considering the ‘causal web’ associated with disease transmission and health outcomes, discuss the importance of different levels of prevention (i.e., primary, secondary, tertiary) used in global/public health strategies for addressing risk factors for specific diseases or health issues. How might these strategies impact one of the health transitions (e.g., demographic, epidemiologic, or nutrition) at the population level? Be specific use examples to support your response.
Considering example of tuberculosis which is currently major disease in Asian countries. A huge population is affected with it and the prevalence of multi drug resistant and extreme drug resistant are seen.
Prevention is always better than cure and for tuberculosis it is the basic thing that can be done in order to spread the infection.
As a primary prevention method maintaining proper hygiene and decontamination of area where patient is kept should be maintained.
Secondary prevention will be wearing proper mask as well as gloves when in near to patients. As disease can spread protecting self while sealing with patient is of great significant.
Tertiary prevention is taking care that patient is completing the complete course of drugs as leaving or discontinuing the drug intake can result in further drug resistant for first line therapy for TB patient.
At the demographic level making common people aware regarding the awareness of the importance of hygiene and about the treatment is important. Educating people is the best way to get the best outcome.
Epidemiology spreading can be prevented by making people aware regarding the importance of completing the drug regimen and leaving the drugs intake in the middle can lead to more leathal outcome. Currently government has started free treatment in health care center in order to provide treatment as much as possible in order to stop the disease spreading.
Nutrition such as green vegetables and fruits can help to enhance immunity. Poverty and malnutrition can be also major cause of spreading of this disorder. Providing proper hygiene and well maintained diet in healthcare center can improve the spreading.
