Medical Coding:
The Path and Lab section is a little more straightforward but still has terms that you may not have seen before. Take a look at the following terms and provide an explanation on when to use each of them:
1. Panels
2. Pathologies
3. Drug Quantitative screenings
4. Drug Qualitative screenings
1. PANELS:
Laboratory panel or chemistry panel are group of tests that are ordered together for a specified member on a specified day.
Test panels are typically composed individual labarotory test which are related in some way by the medical condition they are intended to help diagnose (cardiac risk panel)by the specimen type (complete blood count)by the test most frequently by users.
2. PATHOLOGIES:
Pathology is the study of disease .It is the bridge between science and medicine. It underpins every aspect of patient care, from diagnostic testing and treatment advice to using cutting edge genetic technologies and preventing disease.
3. DRUG QUANTITATIVE SCREENINGS:
These test typically identify the drug and / or drug metabolite with variable specificity and often only by drug class. Alternatively physicians may use quantitative or more confirmatory assay where they can identify and quantify the individual drug and drug metabolite with high specificity and better sensitivity.
DRUG QUALITATIVE DRUG SCREENINGS:
Qualitative drug screenings is used to detect the presence of a drug in the body. A blood or urine sample may be used .However urine is the best specimen for broad qualitative screening ,as blood is relatively .
