To what extent should obtain a bed in any ICU be based on probable benefit from ICU care? On need? On ability to pay?
One should obtain a bed in any ICU be based ''on need''
ICU means Intensive Care Unit, when a patient can not be recovered with the treatment of general ward & needs special care & physical support ,the patient should be transferred into ICU. The care from ICU is actually needed if someone is seriously ill & the patient requires the close monitoring as well as the intensive treatment. On the other hand if any patient is having surgery & in this case Intensive care can help him to recover fastly. Most of the patient we can see in the ICU with having problems with one or more organs, even they may be take breath by their own, so for giving the ventilation support or advanced respiratory support to the patient he should be transferred into ICU. Mainly 4 types of patients are there who have need the ICU. They are -
SO, this is not actually based on probable benefit from ICU care & ability to pay, these are may be the secondary after obtaining bed of ICU. Because probable benefits are needed only when the patient is requiring those particular needs & everyone doesn't have the ability to carry the expenses of ICU , so in this case the health care team shouldn't neglect the patient if he is having the serious needs of ICU care & support.
So, it can be said that one should obtain a bed in any ICU based on need.
