Describe emotionally reactive and easy-going children’s differential susceptibility to rearing experiences.
Why are emotionally reactive children who receive warm, supportive parenting at especially low risk for self-regulation difficulties?
Emotionally Reactive Children: Children who experience frequent and intense emotional arousal.
The parenting practices for emotionally reactive and easy-going children’s are entirely different as their needs are different. Emotionally reactive children need special care and attention as compared to the latter.
Parenting for emotionally reactive children:
Quality of parenting defined in terms of warmth, positive regard and sensitivity to child cues in part shapes the development of children’s ability to regulate emotions. Children who receive such care are at high risk of self –regulation difficulties as they are always accompanied by their parents in handling different situations in life especially the one’s which are related with their emotions. For example, a emotionally reactive child who fails in a test may experience terrible emotional problems like suicidal thoughts so his parents need to support him and be with him always till he overcomes that situation.
This over care may eventually have a negative impact on their personality which in turn may affect their self-regulation in future as well.
