taxonomy is science for classifying organisms that allow them to store and retrieve information about the organisms.
the main function of taxonomy is identifying the organisms. During the taxonomy process, we have correctly identified the insects to order and what are steps to identify these insects.
taxonomy method includes discovering new species, recognizing and naming, and the placing of species within a hierarchical classification.
1. identification
is the identifying characteristics of an organism. Taxonomists give us organized written descriptions of the characteristics of similar species and this is called taxonomic keys. this key is published with pictures of the species it describes.
here pictures cannot convey the natural variation in the morphology of a species so they use written descriptions, because there are thousands of pictures for identifying the species from books which takes more time
2)classification
It is one of the fundamental categories. here species following the naming conventions called binomial nomenclature.
inorder to get a name for new species there should be a first name(genus name) and second name (epithet)
the scientific name should be unique and no 2 species should have the same name in order to avoid the confusion.
we should understand the hierarchical nature of classifications.with the hierarchical system we can place taxa within the Tree of Life so that all taxa are placed with their nearest relatives.
3.nomenclature
it is a system that gives scientific names based on a set of rules.it is a Latinized name to specify animals and plants
The first word is the genus name and the second word is a trivial name.
in botany and zoology nomenclature rule is based on different governing bodies, but similar and not identical
according to the modern scientific, there are 3 parts for complete name the genus, written in italics, and begins with a capital letter, the specific epithet, begins with a lowercase letter; and the author who gave the organism its name
