Choose the topic of either adolescent depression or adolescent suicide. Discuss contributing factors and signs and symptoms that may be observed or assessed in these clients. Describe primary, secondary, and tertiary methods of health prevention for this topic. Research community and state resources and describe at least two of these for your chosen topic. What nursing interventions could you use to assist an adolescent you suspect is depressed beyond referring the adolescent to a state or community resource?

Adolescent depression: It is a major mental health problem which effects adolescents physically, mentally and finacially. At this mid age, teenagers have lot of problems inside(family, carrer, emotional) and outside(society, friends).

They should be capable in solving their problems orlese should seek a pyscologist councelling. If this depression is not treated in either way, teens may landup into suicides.

Signs/symptoms: sitting alone, not mingling with the groups, avoiding food or having in irregular timings. feels so sadness, hoplessness, cries sometimes, no proper sleep, thinking of something which are unwanted, feeling of guilt, poor performance in their studies or activities,.grief, helplessness.

Prevention:

Primary - Councelling

Secondary - Medications

Teritiary - Hospitalization (Psycotherapy)

Nursing interventions:

1. Encourage to express his/her feelings,

2. Encourage to do some activities and selfcare.

3. Give assurance that you will solve the problem

4. Administer if any medications prescribed.

5. Teach positive and effective coping stratigies.

6. Suggest him/her to involve in her hobbies.

7. Assess the teenager, and focus mainly on his/her strengths ratherthan weaknessess.

8. Encourage to interact with friends and staff

9. Maintain good healthy diet.

10. Allow frequent family visits.

11. Encourage to do some excercises/dance/ walk/jog atleast for 30 min in a day.

12. Councelling should be given to the family members that how to interact, which improve selfesteem.
