Environmental sustainability means maintenance and protection of environmental resources which are depleting rapidly so that natural resources can be preserved for longer period of time. If environmental sustainability is not done then future generation will not be able to utilise the natural resources. It include use of renewable sources of energy like solar energy for power generation or tidal energy instead of using non renewable source of energy. Pollution is also seen as an outcome of non renewable source of energy. Crop rotation is also a sustainable method of using the same piece of land for different crops to improve soil fertility.
In the present time, consumers are also aware of the importance of environmental sustainability and they tends towards those products which are eco- friendly. Consumers are interested to buy quality products that lasts for longer time. So marketers at present time are more focused on Green marketing. Green marketing means selling and advertising of those products which are good in terms of quality, price, affordability and has no negative impact on environment. Companies like Proctor & Gamble go on producing and selling sustainable products. Thus from the changing mindset of consumers, it is important to adopt sustainable method of marketing to became successful in business and to maintain long term ethical and social relations. This is because societal marketing is also a part of sustainable product development. Products should be products for the society keeping in mind the price and quality factor along with environmental issues. This is the reason many diesel cars are not considered good due to pollution issues which is rising day-by-day.
