How does the ICU environment differ from a general medical-surgical unit as far as assigned responsibilities for Unlicensed Assistive Personnel?
Medical Surgical nursing you’re taking care of routine surgeries people with illnesses that aren’t immediately life threatening you have a higher patient load. Intensive care you are dealing with much sicker patients get more fancy toys to play with and hopefully you learn how these work and what they do to help the patient. I started in a nursing home palliative care went to med/surg after nursing school, back in the days there were less then 20 male nurses working in hospitals in the area,so you tend to stand out can be good or bad I treat all of my patients the same whether they’re homeless a ceo of a big company, and a lot of doctors treat everyone with respect and dignity. Worked in ICU for 12 years, had curiosity about cardiology ended up in invasive cardiology for 28 years. I’m an adrenaline junky the more serious the situation is the more I like it.Nice thing about nursing it’s a large enough field you can find your niche
