Describe the structure of the Communist Party and Government in China’s central power structure. Describe the evolution of leadership of the Government and Party since 1978.
The Communist Party if China is a single body structure which is the major political life of China. The Communist party is the main policy making body of the country. The party has a structure in which a member of 2000 delegates votes for the 200 members who will be elected for the Central committee. These 200 members further elects 20-25 members who forms a political bureau which is the ruling leadership of the party. This bureau's 6-7 members are the topmost leaders of the party and the country as a whole. The party's Secretariat look after the day to day work. The party gas a commission which looks after the corruption which takes place inside the party. It also has a commission which looks after the armed forces. The party has small organizations in cities, towns, villages, neighborhood, workplaces, etc.
In 1976 Mao Zedung and Zhou Enlai died. Immediately the Gang of Four consisted of Mao's widow and other radical members were arrested. Soon after Deng Xiapong assumed power. The cultural revolution for which Mao Sending and other radical members fought was officially ended. However, the concept of "four modernizations" was adopted which consisted of industry, agriculture, science/technology and defence. The restrictions which were there on art and education were relaxed. Hua Guafeng took the chair after Mao's death. Thereafter, he was replaced by Zhao Ziyang in 1987. He was thereafter succeeded by Jiang Zemin in 1989. Hi Jintao was elected as the general secretary who was then followed by Xi Jinping in 2012.
