A mother confides that she thinks her 8-year-old is going to be homosexual because he likes playing with dolls.

What topics do you need to explore?

How would you educate a mother who believes that homosexuality is a disease and can be changed?

Solutions

Expert Solution

The topics that need to be explored are the way of socialization of the child with other groups, how much they are imitating their mother or his siblings,, their behaviour and attitude towards the other group should be checked in detail. Simply by playing with dolls doesn't mean that , the child is homosexual

The mother should be understood that simply playing with the dolls does not make the conclusion that the son is homosexual..Secondly, the mother should be educated that if they use any girls items or her shoes or dress etc, it doesn't mean that he is homo. He just find those things as interesting and therefore he wanted to play with that. The mother should be taught that even if he is homosexual it is a disease and can be changed.Sevreal behavioural techniques, cognitive behavioural techniques, psychoanalytic technique, medical approaches, social and religious approaches are the ways to treat.Mother should be encouraged about the masculine features and extinguish the feminine behaviours.Bioenergetics is another way of changing to masculine behaviour.Conversion therapy is a type of psychiatric therapy n which, psychoanalysis, group therapy is used. in Pschotherapy the study of the unconscious mind is done and based on that the behaviour modification activities are carried out.
