In which of the following domains do the cells store their genetic information in a nucleus?
a. Eukarya and Archaea
b. Eukarya
c. Archaea and Bacteria
d. Archaea
e. Bacteria and Eukarya
Eukaryotes vs prokaryotes genetic information :-
• Eukaryotic cells have membrane bound cell organelles and a well
defined membrane bound nucleus whereas these are absent in
prokaryotic cells. Membrane bound cell organelles and nucleus are
absent in prokaryotic cells.
• Both eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells store their genetic
information in nucleic acids.
• Nucleic acid of eukaryotic cell is present in nucleus, so here we
can say that genetic information of eukaryotic cells is stored in
nucleus.
• Prokaryotic cells lack nucleus and their nucleic acid is found in
cytoplasm, so here we can say that genetic information of
prokaryotic cells is stored in cytoplasm.
Three domains classification -
• Prokaryotic organisms are classified in archaea and bacteria and
eukaryotic organisms are classified in eukarya.
• So, domain in which cell store genetic information in nucleus is
= Eukarya.
Option (b) is correct answer.
• Archaea and bacteria have no nucleus.
