This module introduces the topic of puberty and explores how children develop physically, psychosocially, and cognitively during this time. Often, parents/caregivers are not comfortable talking with children about the changes they experience during puberty and, consequently, leave children to figure things out on their own.
As a parent/guardian, what do you think would be important to tell a child about puberty? Describe at least one thing you would explain from each of the following categories:
puberty- it is a normal and healthy part of development for kids, it is a stage when child body transits into an adult body which is capable of sexual reproduction.
As a parent ,It is important to tell child about puberty. one should tell them that it's a part of growing up and everyone goes through it , but not always at the same pace , They should also know that the timing of these changes can vary greatly .The kids usually have lots of questions it is important for parent to give child time and opportunity to ask questions and answer the honestly and thoroughly.
1. PHYSICAL CHANGES - During puberty affects skeletal, muscular , reproductive and all other bodily system .
In boys ,there is enlargement of testicles and sprouting of public hair.
In girls , body shape will change , some parts of body like head might grow faster then limbs.
2. PSYCHOSOCIAL CHANGES - There may be drastic mood swings , there are signs of excitement ,anger , anxiety and depression. That can result in confusion and they need support and understanding.
3. COGNITIVE CHANGES - They may develop advanced reasoning skills , think hypothetically, it may affect how they feels and behave at school children may engage in activities and roles for which they don't have appropriate skills and the brain undergo lot of growth and development.
