I will ask the following five questions -

1. In what language do you speak at home? Do you find it difficult to understand English? (It will help me to understand their language compatibility for future reference and will also let me know a little about them)

2. What would you like to be called as long as you are here? (It would make them feel more comfortable and important if we call them by a name of their prefernce perhaps in their local language)

3. Would you like to involve any family member of yours while we are caring for you here? (It will promote kinship and would make them very comfortable if we introduce someone of their culture to stand with them during the care)

4. We have full respect for your culture and its values. Would you like to share any of it which can help us while we care for you? (It will help in creating a healthy relation with the patient which will significantly help in the treatment)

5. What food do you normally eat and what food do you like the most? (Would help in understanding the eating preference of the patient and we can subsequently anticipate according to her choices)

This will help me in understanding the patient in particular. I will know their culture, beliefs, values and preferences which will help me in anticipating my treatment process in such a way that it becomes best suited for them. And in a healthcare, the more the patient is happy and comfortable, the more the chances of early recovery.
